Tissot Seastar 1000 (blue face, steel bracelet) Dec 17, 2008 I purchased a Tissot Seastar 1000 (blue face) in early 2007, from a dealer overseas brand new for $400usd shipped to Canada.
Pros:
- Super classy looks: Its not to blingy, its not to formal and it always gets compliments from the ladies (strippers always comment on this watch, I guess they know quality when they see it).
- Keeps good time for an automatic watch : +/- 5 seconds a day (averaged about 2 mins fast per month)
- Heavy : watch just feels great and surprises unsuspecting people when you hand it over to them to try on
- Large bracelet : I have an 8" wrist and it fits loose without any adjustment (id say it might fit 8-3/8" wrist)
- Waterproof : wore this watch during a 1 week trip to the dominican, in the pool, snorkeling, diving with no problems
- cleaning : just a little bit of warm water and handsoap makes this watch look brand new ever time after a month of wearing
- Tissot Service : This watch was sent back to Tissot for free through a local dealer, they service watchs very quick and trouble free (see below)
Cons:
- Screw down crown : was stripped/fixed 3 times, crown actually screws down inside of watch with a treaded pin rather than the shaft on the outside of the case, therefore the threads are very tiny/delicate. I advise you to take GREAT care aligning the treads on this watch before you screw down, and dont screw too tight either (with my Seiko Orange Monster SKX781K1 you can really wrench down on the crown and it still feels solid)
- Claspe : the safety and normal claspe popped open one time while I was tossing the football around at the beach, I was standing waist deep in water and the football hit the claspe dead on and opened right up, im super lucky it didnt drop into the water or else it would have been gone!
- Day : I wish is displayed the DAY (mon, tues, wed ect.) along with the date
Conclusion:
I dont think you can find a better looking watch (especially for the price $400-500) than the Tissot Seastar 1000, it is truly gorgeous. However I would suggest that you deligate its duties to special occasion wear, maybe a daily office job watch. DO NOT wear is if you perform hard labor, if your playing sports/horsing around with your buddies, or during a street fight (put it in your pocket or hand it to a friend/girlfriend)
Thank you for taking the time to read my review of the Tissot Seastar 1000.
Best value for money Apr 03, 2008 I bought this watch 2 years ago and after abusing it non stop it still looks as good as when I first put it on. To dress it up, I bought the steel bracelet which isn't great but does the job. I prefer now to keep it with the original rubber bracelet. I got it for about $400 but even at $600 it is still the best swiss automatic you can buy. Your next watch after this would have to be an Omega or Rolex--Anything else would be a lateral move. Buy this Tank of a watch--you won't regret it.
U.S.NAVY DEEPSEA DIVER HAS A TISSOT SEASTAR 1000 ON ALL THE TIME Mar 31, 2008 THE TISSOT SEASTAR 1000 IS AN OUTSTANDING DIVE WATCH.
IT IS LARGE ENOUGH FOR THE KNUCKLE-DRAGGING DEEP-SEA DIVER TO DISPLAY ON HIS TREE TRUNK WRIST AND STILL KEEP TRACK OF HIS BOTTOM TIME.
THE HEART OF THE SEASTAR 1000 IS THE TIME PROVEN ,TRIED AND TRUE SWISS MANUFACTURED E.T.A. 25 JEWELS AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT.
THE MOVEMENT IS PROTECTED BY A THICK CHUNCK OF SHPPHIRE CRYSTAL . VERY NICE CONSIDERING THE SEASTAR 1000 IS ,AFTER ALL A DIVE WATCH,PRONE TO ABUSE.
THE VIEW CASE BACK IS VERY COOL . JUST TO SEE THE GUTS OF THE WATCH IS A WOW KIND OF MAN MADE AMAZEMENT.
I THINK THIS IS THE BEST VALUE FOR YOUR HARD EARNED CASH IF YOU WANT TO USE A REAL SWISS DIVE WATCH FOR DAILY DIVING.
IF YOUR NOT A CAVE MAN DEEP-SEA WORKING DIVER AND ALL YOU WANT IS A VERY NICE TIME PIECE, THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY.
DON'T SPEND ALL YOUR MONEY ON ONE OF THE OTHER EXPENSIVE SWISS WATCHES. WITH THE MONEY YOU SAVE WHEN YOU BUY THE TISSOT SEASTAR 1000 YOU CAN PAY FOR SPORTS GEAR FOR YOUR KIDS AND FILL YOUR GAS TANK.

Initial impressions: Decent watch for the price, makes a good daily wear watch when you keep the desktop diving scratches off yo Mar 01, 2008
Initial impressions: Decent watch for the price, makes a good daily wear watch when you keep the desktop diving scratches off your favorite pieces.
-- Bracelet, case, weight --
The bracelet needed some additional adjustments and this is done with ease since the clasp already has 3 convenience pins in the buckle and two others opposite at the latch.
The bracelet extender for wet suit and jacket wear is easy to open, not excessively easy so no worries about the bracelet opening further and falling off while getting a farmers tan driving on the interstate.
Watch isn't too heavy for a large 41mm case, about the same weight as the Omega SeaMaster large 300m quartz (Omega Ref: 2541.80.00) and still lighter than a Breitling Colt or Airwolf (Breitling uses the HEAVIEST links you'll ever meet !). The weight savings in this Tissot is in the links, they aren't cheap feeling or appearing, just not overly heavy.
Adjusting the bracelet is straightforward, tension pins are used and any standard pin-pusher will work, the links are wider than most so a regular size popper is a tight fit but not impossible.
The characteristic Tissot angular lugs remain true in this SeaStar along with the crown guards. The solid end links are quality and honest to all modern Tissot bracelets, open enough to work on with ease by a skilled technician.
See through case back is well constructed and provides a decent view of the movement, nothing really exquisite compared to a Breitling Caliber 13 or 17 ( this thing costs a fraction of those and they don't come with see through backs anyway ).
The domed crystal is magnifying at every offset angle, dead on the reading is actual size, blue bezel and face are pretty for a watch of this price, the face isn't as iridiscent as Tag-Heur's and the bezel isn't as blue or refined as an Omega SeaMaster. In my opinion the bezel on this watch is the drawback, it has a cheap appearance while the paint and numerals and bezel pearl are precisely stamped and etched the blue matte finish is a poor contrast to the semi iridiscent face. The bezel pearl is flush like a Rolex.
The markers are well made and denominated by chrome finished with the trademark "T" at 12, numerals are double illmuniated coated at outer ends of the chrome markers and the corresponding face markers, no illumination on the bezel except for the pearl. Markers are so well polished you can see the underside reflection fo the seconds when when sweeping over.
The bezel is unidirectional counter clock wise and sixty clicks.
Time increments are printed for 1/20th of seconds from 12 - 3 then half seconds for the rest of the face. Large arrow hour hand and airplane second hand, the movement is impressively smooth at this price point, but not as smooth as an exquisite automatic movment, this watch still has less beats per minutes than a Breitling Caliber 17 so don't be surprised if the second hand seems a little "jumpy" but only under close inspection without a loupe.
Luminescense is decent for this price point, bright enough to read in the dark if the lights just went out in the room.
-- Settings, accuracy --
This model is just time and date so adjusting is equally simple, the screw down crown is larger than a Breitlings and easy to grip, no gasket is present on the crown screw like the Rolex triple seal (again, this watch costs a fraction of what is being compared to)pull to first position to manually wind, second position to adjust date, third and final to adjust time and sync seconds.
This watch isn't as accurate as I'd hoped, it is gaining 10 seconds per day, this will be acceptable to most owners but it is a point of note. We'll see if the movement slows as time goes by.
This is a decent watch for $590 USD MSRP, from two tables away it is almost indistinguishable from an Omega SeaMaster 300, sitting across the table from someone will garner their notice. If you have a SeaMaster or Breitling Colt and want to keep it looking like new than the Tissot Seastar is great choice for a daily wear timepiece.
